This novel is the fifth book in Hillerman's Navajo Mystery Series featuring Jim Chee. This edition was published in 1991 by Hayakawa Publishing INC. in Tōkyō, Japan. This edition, also associated with the Mysterious Press, a trademark of Warner Brothers, INC., was used by Hayakawa Publishing, INC. with permission. It was translated from Tony Hillerman's original text in English into Japanese by Tadao Oba.

As is typical with popular press items in Japan, this edition comes with a paper publisher's ribbon wrapped around the exterior of the title.
