People of Darkness [Avon Paperback, American paperback edition, 1982]

This is the full and detailed views of the American Avon paperback edition of Tony Hillerman's People of Darkness (1980), the fourth novel on his Navajo Mystery series. People of Darkness introduces Sergeant Jim Chee of the Navajo Tribal Police, a younger and in some ways more traditional Navajo than Joe Leaphorn.

Avon printed two Canadian editions of People of Darkness. The covers of the Canadian editions are different from the American edition, and even though they share the same graphics, each Canadian edition is slightly different from the other.

Cover design and artwork are unattributed. The cover design breaks the cover art into two sections: the upper announces that this is "A Sergeant Jim Chee Mystery," contains a short review, and announces Hillerman's receipt of the Edgar Award, in addition to spelling out the author's name and and the title of the novel. The lower section is filled with an illustration that contains a potted peyote cactus, a mole, an addressed envelope, and a hand holding a revolver. A similar design continues on to the back cover.
