This is the first German edition of a Hillerman novel. Published in 1976, the title literally translates from German into English as "[Rifle] Shots from the Stone Age!" The novel was translated from English into German by Helmut Eilers. This paperback edition has a dark, textured cover with cover art, by Ulrich Mach, consisting of a montage of two black-and-white photographs of fetishes. The large stone at the center of the top fetish, an eagle, is colored aqua, as is the publisher's emblem of "rororo." This aqua tint is continued onto the back cover, where it highlights the novel's hook. In the bottom left corner of the back cover is a line drawing of a man holding a finger to his lips as if to warn someone to be quiet
