In Bedard’s six-year tenure at UNM, she built and mentored a strong leadership and support team that helped in a number of major achievements and brought about necessary change in the focus of the College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (UL&LS) collections from primarily print to an effective combination of electronic and uniquely available print. She increased the use of library facilities by creating effective student spaces and engaged with university planners to create the Master Plan for Zimmerman Library; carefully reorganized positions in order to provide a more consistent level of service and meet the changing needs of the students and faculty; built a ground breaking research data support initiative aligned with new National Science Foundation requirements for data management; strengthened the infrastructure necessary for creating and preserving deep and rich digital collections reflecting New Mexico, Southwestern, and Latin American culture, history and politics. Additionally, she expanded UL&LS to create a credit based curriculum using existing library expertise and brought one of the largest graduate degree programs, Organization, Information & Learning Sciences (OI&LS), into the libraries. The new name for UNM’s library system reflects the expanded mission. She has also significantly grown and diversified the development/fundraising portfolio and added to the diversity and expertise of the faculty through assertive recruitment. Two additional noteworthy accomplishments were the major milestone of the acquisition of the 3-millionth volume into the UL&LS collection and upcoming celebration of the 75th anniversary of Zimmerman with the premier of a documentary and new endowment for the preservation of Zimmerman Library. |
