This is the advance reader's edition of Tony Hillerman's novel The First Eagle. Published by HarperCollins in 1998, the cover features the original artwork by Peter Thorpe. The illustration depicts a kachina masked figure, which somewhat resembles Ahote kachina, standing in front of a half moon shaped frame containing a Pueblo cliff village and an eagle swooping through a southwestern sunset. The author's name is printed at the top of the front cover in large metallic turquoise type. Below is the novel title, printed in metallic red.
The back cover contains text, printed in black, describing the First Eagle campaign, along with a photo of Tony Hillerman.
