Online Exhibits
This is a developing repository of original, article-length scholarship emerging from and associated with the Tony Hillerman Portal project. Here you will find current and previous projects on Tony Hillerman, his creative life, his work, and how the digital humanities intersect and augment access to the cultures, history, and contemporary realities of the U.S. Southwest. These exhibits, following each scholar’s unique investment in Hillerman’s legacy, ask a variety of questions about Hillerman’s professional and writing lives more broadly, as well as his works more specifically. For example, why did Hillerman move from journalism to fiction and back again to nonfiction? Do his novels appeal more to younger readers and/or are they in conversation with his books written specifically for children?
